Alcatel has secured a deal to supply network infrastructure to Scancom Cyprus, the new mobile subsidiary of Beirut-based telecoms group, Investcom Holding. The French equipment maker will provide a solution including GSM, GPRS and EDGE radio and core infrastructure to the operator, as well as an intelligent network (IN) platform. The platform will support value-added services and applications such as MMS, voice-mail, a short message service center (SMSc), mobile number portability (MNP) and postpaid/prepaid convergence. Scancom secured a licence to offer mobile services in Cyprus in November, and is due to start operating at the beginning of May. Its parent, Investcom, has a presence in various markets in the Middle East and Africa, including Syria, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
