Etihad has adopted Lufthansa Systems’ MultiHost IT package to fully automate its core systems. The UAE airline has signed up for five years worth of services from Lufthansa Systems, and the deal will see a number of modules used by Abu Dhabi-based Etihad. Those scheduled for deployment include flight planning, reservations, inventory, ticketing, revenue accounting and passenger processing. By opting for Lufthansa Systems’ hosted airline solution, Etihad will be able to work on a ‘pay for what you use’ basis, which should help the fledging airline manage its total cost of ownership (TCO) more effectively. Furthermore, the ability to pick and choose from Lufthansa Systems’ suite of products means the UAE operator will be able to create a set of applications tailored to its specific requirements today, and then change that portfolio in the future should its needs change. In addition to providing Etihad with its software stack, Lufthansa Systems will also provide the airline with a number of other services, including consultation.
