Canadian production company Decode Entertainment, which specialises in children’s and family entertainment programming, has selected Fujinon high definition video lenses with its HD packages for two of its top-rated series, The Blobheads and Radio Free Roscoe. The newly introduced Fujinon HAe10x10 Cine Super E zoom lens was selected for close-up shots on Radio Free Roscoe — a live action show that incorporates elements of a radio show in its format — due to its 10-100mm focal range and 10X zoom ratio. Fujinon’s HAe5x6-F Cine Super E zoom lens is extensively used on that production, as well as The Blobheads, a series produced with a blend of live action for the human characters and CGI animation for the aliens. Both productions use Fujinon’s new HAe5x6-F, 6-30mm, T 1.8 zoom as the primary lens on Sony HDW-F900 HDCAM high definition digital CineAlta cameras. “The Fujinon Hae5x6F lens — used as a substitute for primes — offers excellent sharpness, minimal breathing and ramping. Its performance is very satisfying,” says George Hosek, director of Photography of both programmes. “We shoot at 2.8 aperture most of the time, but even with aperture 1.8, the images are flawless.” Both lenses, according to Hosek, “were friendly to the focus puller, because of large barrels and 280-degree focus rotation. Shooting in HDTV brings us closer to creating a film look when you can use such cinema style lenses with controlled creative lighting,” he adds.
