Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) plans to build a specially designed head office in the capital. The facility is scheduled to open in January of 2006. The construction contract, worth Dhs133 million (US$ 36 million) has been awarded to Dubai Contracting Company and the project managers are Turner Construction International. The bank has retained Chilean architects, Burja Hudobro. Architecture and Planning Group have been appointed as project consultants. When complete ADCB’s headquarters will reach over 23 floors, covering a total development area of 41,590 m2. The project is expected to take 24 months from start to finish. The building will encompass the bank’s main branch with 19 floors dedicated to office space, one floor devoted to technical systems and the 21st floor set to feature a multifunctional reception hall and auditorium conference facility. In addition, ADCB’s head office will include a three-level underground car park accessed by a circular ramp and capable of accommodating 167 vehicles. Contemporary in architectural design, the head office design is expected to incorporate clear crystal glass on the façade, Italian granite for lobbies and corridor, crystallised glass stone for the banking halls, stainless steel wall cladding and clear glass screens for the lobby’s panoramic, high speed lifts. The construction has been designed to incorporate various information technology, spacing flexibility and energy management, to enable the ‘smart building’ to adjust to its occupants needs. By automating every aspect of the building’s systems, such as cooling, lighting and communications, the building will be more energy efficient. “As ADCB enters a new period of growth which will see it expand its customer base, product portfolio and customer service offerings, the bank’s head office must be capable of meeting the needs of this expansion,” said Knox. “With additional space and improved facilities, our new head office will be equipped to provide customers with a better environment [to] conduct and support all their banking requirements. The contemporary design is also reflective of our move towards a more modern image for ADCB,” he added.
