Dubai Municipality has made information and application forms related to various marine works and services available from its web site. Abdulrahman Al Sharid, director of general projects department at Dubai Municipality, said the e-initiative comes as part of the civic body’s e-Government project that seeks to offer almost all of its services online. The services and applications that can be accessed online include marine data acquisition, no objection certificate (NOC) for dredging within the Dubai coastal zone (DCZ), NOC for construction within the DCZ, and NOC for Sand Excavation within the DCZ. Applications for marine data acquisition is pursuant to DM circular 270 (2000) which authorises the General Projects Department’s Marine Works Unit to issue the marine data gathered under its coastal monitoring programme to engineering consultants, contractors and other interested parties at set rates. According to Al Sharid, the three NOC forms deal with engineering activities within the DCZ and are pursuant to the Local Order No. 22 (2001), which stipulates that such activities must receive a marine works NOC from DM prior to commencement of the works. The forms (in PDF format) can be downloaded from the municipality’s web site - www.dm.gov.ae - and are listed under the Directory of Services - Marine Services.
