Dubai tourism records 148% growth

Dubai’s tourism industry recorded a 148 percent growth from 1996-2002, receiving over 21 million guests in this period, according to the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

Dubai’s tourism industry recorded a 148 percent growth from 1996-2002, receiving over 21 million guests in this period, according to the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). The total number of hotel guests in the Emirate rose from 1.918 million in the 1996 to 4.756 million in 2002. The largest number of visitors came from the UK, which posted a 306 percent growth in the seven year period from 110,045 to 447,006. The number of visitors from the GCC countries jumped significantly during the seven year period, from 400,394 in 1996 to 1.06 million in 2002, which represents a 164 percent growth.
