Emirates Airline and Lufthansa Technik are exploring the formation of a joint venture for spare parts pooling support. The project will initially use A340-500s and -600s to review the plan, with the option of adding further aircraft in the future. “If the project establishes the feasibility of a joint venture, both Emirates and Lufthansa will benefit enormously in terms of cost efficiency, reliability and speed of technical services, which translates into an overall better service to our customers,” says Tim Clark, president, Emirates Airline. “Cooperation in maintenance, repair and overhaul services between Emirates and Lufthansa Technik will bring together the strength of two big fleets. The synergies will be to the benefit of both companies,” adds Lufthansa Technik’s executive board chairman, August Henningsen. The agreement follows Lufthansa Technik’s decision to create a sales presence in Dubai, to enable customers in the region interested in obtaining technical or consulting services to contact Lufthansa Technik directly. “Lufthansa Technik has been serving airlines and VIP customers in the Middle East for more than 40 years. Along with Europe, it [the region] is one of our most important markets. Having a representative office of our own in Dubai will afford those customers more immediate access to our services,” comments Henningsen.
