Emirates Airline is setting out on a global recruitment drive, as it looks for the cabin crew needed to staff its ever-growing fleet. Teams of recruitment specialists will visit 27 countries on four continents between January and April, looking for potential stewards and stewardess.

The airline is aiming to hire 1000 new cabin crewmembers by mid-2004, increasing its staff numbers by 25%, to over 5000. In January, recruiters will visit eight cities in Europe (London, Rome, Milan, Paris, Istanbul, Ankara, Belgrade and Berlin), seven in Asia-Pacific (Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne and Auckland), four in Africa (Cairo, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Nairobi) and one in the Middle East (Beirut)

In February the search moves on to Tokyo, Vancouver, Barcelona, Dublin and then into East Europe, with trips to Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary. In March and April, the team will descend on Central and South America, with visits to Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and Mexico. Teams will be in the UK, tour cities outside London, including Birmingham and Leeds.

“We are looking for team players who get along with people from all over the world and have the confidence to relate to others in any circumstances,” says Rick Helliwell, Emirates’ recruitment manager.

“We have recently taken on more recruitment officers, all with experience in top airlines. Now we’re sending them off to look for the best candidates for these demanding and exciting careers. The job is ideal for young people, and Dubai is one of the world's most dynamic and cosmopolitan cities,” he adds.
