EMC Corporation, the storage company claims to have extended its lead over HP and IBM in the external Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) storage systems and networked storage systems segment. The vendor makes this claim, based on the Q3'03 sales and data from IDC's worldwide quarterly disk storage systems tracker.

"EMC's results in the Middle East have mirrored the organisation's strong levels of success globally. We have increased our hold on the regional market, with our expanding product line. The latest market share results from IDC confirm the strong customer demand for EMC's networked storage systems," says Mohammed Amin, regional general manager, EMC Middle East.

According to IDC estimates, EMC was number one with 21.4% revenue share in the worldwide external RAID storage systems market, compared with 18.8% in the third quarter of 2002.

In the Middle East, EMC has recently secured deals with MobileCom, a subsidiary of Jordan Telecom, Vodafone Egypt, to supply them organisations with business continuity solutions on EMC storage.

EMC grew external RAID revenue at 20.5%, outpacing this market, which IDC said grew 5.8 % during the same period. External raid storage includes all controller-based disk storage systems that are not embedded inside servers.

In networked storage (NAS and open SAN), which represents a rapidly growing portion of worldwide disk storage sales, EMC ranked number one in the third quarter with 28.9% revenue share, up from 27.7% in the third quarter of 2002.

Among the top five suppliers, Dell and EMC posted the strongest year-over-year factory revenue growth during the third quarter of 2003, with 22.9% and 20.5% gain respectively. EMC also had the largest year-over-year market share gain of 2.2 points. Dell moved into the number four position on strong sales of products OEM'ed from EMC: states the IDC report.
