EADS Sogerma Services and Air AlgTrie have signed a joint venture deal to enhance the airline’s maintenance capabilities at its newly expanded base at Algiers’ Houari BoumTdienne International Airport.

The deal will enable Air AlgTrie to establish a maintenance operation at Algiers, which will allow the carrier to handle MRO activities for its own fleet, as well as offering services to other airlines and operators.

This agreement follows two years of cooperation during which EADS Sogerma Services assisted Air AlgTrie in transferring its maintenance centre from older facilities to a new centre at Houari BoumTdienne International Airport. The new centre includes a 27,000-sq. meter hanger, as well as 22,000 sq. meters of workshop and office space. EADS Sogerma Services also helped prepared the MRO centre for certification to European JAR 145 standards.

“EADS Sogerma Services is pleased to enter this joint venture, which extends the relationship that has developed with Air AlgTrie during the past two years,” says Yves Richard, president of EADS Sogerma Services. “The new agreement will enable us to bring together our capabilities and resources to best serve the needs of Air AlgTrie and the region,” he adds.

“Our agreement with EADS Sogerma Services will allow Air AlgTrie to enter a new phase of development for its aircraft maintenance capacity — benefiting from the investments we have made in our capable new facilities at Algiers,” explains Mohamed Tayeb Benouis, Air AlgTrie’s chairman & CEO.
