GENX is planning to expand from its current base as a components and peripherals supplier to provide complete systems, the company said last week. Atif Rasheed, regional manager for GENX said the company aimed to become one of the leading local systems suppliers within a year.

Rasheed was speaking at an event in Dubai, held by GENX and distributor Memory Technology Middle East, to award business partners for sales in an ongoing promotion. There he told the audience that GENX has ambitions to offer laptops and PCs as well as its current range of flash disks, motherboards, monitors, scanners, digital cameras and other peripherals.

The company does not intend to become a “white box” maker, Rasheed said. “We will position ourselves against the international players,” he said. In other countries, such as Russia and China, the leading PC makers were local companies, he said.

GENX will focus on service to win customers, Rasheed said, with service centres to be established in several countries, and a ‘service excellence’ centre established in Dubai. The company will also look at setting up or outsourcing a call centre facility and will provide a messaging service helpline. “People won’t have to wait to send an e-mail and get a reply because they’ll be able to chat online,” he said.
