A US provider of electronic sales solutions to the hospitality industry is providing global representation to one of the Middle East’s newest hotels. Utell, part of Dallas-based Pegasus Solutions, will use its electronic network to drum up custom for Jumeirah International’s Mina A’Salam hotel in Dubai.

Utell is providing a wide range of services to Mina A’Salam, which is still being constructed nearby its sister hotel — the landmark Burj Al Arab. Through Pegasus’ electronic distribution system, rooms at the 100-acre Mina A’Salam will be booked via the four major global distribution systems (GDS) — Amadeus, Galileo, Sabre and Worldspan.

Utell also leverages its status as a preferred hotel supplier to more than 100 leading global travel agencies to increase the visibility of the Mina A’Salam to agency staff. Travel agents can reserve rooms at the hotel, phase one of which opened at the beginning of this month, in their respective systems by keying in the hotel’s designated code.

In addition, Pegasus’ electronic connections include the majority of the world’s leading online travel sites, enhancing Mina A’Salam’s internet presence as travellers make their hotel reservations online.

Utell hotel members have international representation in 41 countries through a global network of Pegasus reservation offices and call centres, any of which can now take telephone reservations on behalf of the Mina A’Salam. In addition, Pegasus’ sales force will promote the Mina A’Salam and the three other Jumeirah International properties it represents to corporate and leisure travel agencies at trade shows and events.

“Utell’s proven ability to increase the exposure of hotel properties to a global audience was instrumental in our decision to utilise their services,” says John Pelling, general manager of the Mina A’Salam. “The company’s proactive relationships with travel agents, combined with outstanding GDS and web connections, are already bearing fruit via bookings we’ve registered for the hotel’s first month of operation,” he adds.

With the addition of the Mina A’Salam, Utell now represents 25 hotels in Dubai, and more than 100 properties combined in 13 countries in the Middle East.

“In a short period of time, Jumeirah International has established itself as one of the more creative hotel development and management companies in the hospitality industry today,” says Gideon Dean, senior vice president of global sales for Pegasus Solutions. “We are pleased to see our relationship grow with the opening of the remarkable Mina A’Salam hotel, and we look forward to doing our part to promote the hotel and drive bookings through a variety of reservation channels,” he adds.

Phase two of the Mina A’Salam is scheduled for completion in Autumn 2004. When complete, the hotel will boast 3km of waterways.
