National Societe Generale Bank (NSGB) is to develop and implement an automated cash acceptance facility at selected self-service terminals with CR2 and NCR. The solution will replace the Egyptian bank's current envelope-based system.

As part of the automated cash acceptance facility the finance institution will deploy NCR's Personas 86 and 73 terminals. The former has automated cash deposit, dual dispensing and ATM capability, while the latter boasts around-the-clock automated cash deposit capabilities.

"Accepting cash deposits manually at the branch is a costly, tedious, and labour intensive task," says Greg Kane, regional sales manager for CR2.

"NSGB anticipates that in having this automated cash acceptance facility it will help their banking staff to focus on imperative client related issues and in doing so will help to build better customer relationships," he adds.

Through the new system, NSGB customers will benefit from bunch note acceptance where the cash deposit can be credited online to the customers account, thereby giving an immediate proof of the amount deposited. Users will also be able to pre-select the account they want credited.

The NSGB implementation is, according to CR2 and NCR, the latest in a long line of deposit-taking ATMs by financial institutions, as the Middle East catches onto the benefits self-serve machines deliver for both banks and their customers.

"We launched the intelligent deposit technology three years ago starting out from the Middle East and by now, more than a dozen countries in the region have certified and deployed our products," says Costas Koudounias, self-service marketing manager for NCR MEA.

"The number of banks in the Middle East and Africa region who consider the deployment of the NCR intelligent deposit solutions is increasing continuously. More and more customers are convinced of the value that this technology could bring to their self-service channels by enabling them to enhance the current functionality offered by their ATMs to include cash and check deposits, by instantly crediting one's accounts," he adds.
