Dell is moving into the consumer electronics and digital market space, the company said at the end of last month. Products to be launched include a digital music player, an online music service, a multifunction LCD TCV and monitor and a wireless handheld.

The company also announced a new software application that will allow PC users to more easily listen to digital music files, watch DVDs and use a range of other media functions.

“We are revolutionising technology for our customers – again,” said Michael Dell, chairman and CEO of Dell. “By introducing high performance consumer electronis products that more closely integrate with the computer, we are delivering what is most important to consumers – content and experience at a better value than they’re currently getting.”

On the IT side, the company is launching the Dell Dimension XPS+, which will provide high-quality performance in gaming and the Dell Axim handheld, which includes Wi-Fi connectivity.

Pricing and availability outside the US has not been disclosed.
