ViewSonic is bringing a wide range of kit to its stand in hall 4, including smart displays, LCD TVs, seven projector models and a Pocket PC handheld device.

Although the vendor's smart displays don't currently form a large portion of the ViewSonic's revenues, the Airpanel V110 and V115 are likely to command a lot of attention. The 10 and 15-inch wireless, touch screen monitors allow consumers to access the internet or run an applicatin remotely from the PC.

The V110 and V150 run on Microsoft Windows CE for Smart Display operating system, have a 400 MHz Intel Xscale processor, 32 Mbytes ROM, 64 Mbytes SDRAM and a long life battery. "In 2002 we featured our V1100 Tablet PC product," says Ian Gobey, regional manager, ViewSonic.

"We have a convertible model that will arrive in early 2004, but for now we will be exhibiting the slate version. We will be having this on our booth and as per last year on the Microsoft booth," he adds.

Despite interest in the Airpanels generated at last year's show, Gobey believes that the local market for such smart displays has yet to take off.

"The smartpanel-based airpanel wireless displays were only launched at Cebit in 2003 and in selected markets [in Middle East & Africa] in July 2003. The expectations we have are obviously realistic in respect of the fact that this is a new category and it will take time to develop and establish itself," he explains.
