The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) in Lebanon is streamlining its network operations with the rollout of a host of enterprise management software from Computer Associates (CA).

The government body will implement CA’s Unicenter management suite, BrightStor enterprise backup and recovery software and eTrust antivirus and intrusion to secure its network.

“The project consists of implementing a state-of-the-art leading edge enterprise information systems management solution for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in Lebanon,” comments engineer Claude Masaad, general manager of Technical Affairs at the General Directorate of PCM.

“This enterprise high technology solution is the vertebral column of the information technology infrastructure and data centre at PCM,” he adds.

PCM is in the process of establishing a solid IT infrastructure to improve its internal business and establish a reliable ‘exchange of information’ system between PCM and other Lebanese government ministries.

The infrastructure will also play a key role in the extension of services to the Lebanese public.

Unicenter will provide PCM with a ‘virtual’ management view of its network infrastructure, including the applications and services. The government agency will use BrightStor to automate many of the storage management tasks, such as backup and recovery of mission critical data.

The implementation is being handled by a team of certified professionals from CA-Middle East’s branch office in Lebanon. CA-ME will also handled the training requirements for PCM.

“The solution is dedicated to serving the government data centre,” comments Hayssam El-Masri, director of operations at CA-ME.
