fonoinfo is set to establish a software development centre in Jordan as it looks to create wireless applications and services for the Middle East market. The centre will be responsible for the conception, design and writing of these apps, as well as acting as a beacon for fonoinfo's local market push.

"Through our newly launched wireless software development centre, we will be able to rapidly develop and market our applications to the exponentially growing Middle East market of 25 million mobile subscribers and beyond" says Ayad Sabbagh, chief executive officer of fonoinfo.

"Through our intention to capture the virtually untapped market of information-keen mobile users, we will gain a first entrant advantage. Our applications will be developed in the Middle East for the Middle East and will far exceed international quality standards," he adds.

The company decided to build its software development centre in Jordan following extensive research into Middle East IT hubs. According to Sabbagh, the Kingdom offered both the human resources and infrastructure the company required.

"Jordan offers a superior level of software development expertise and a reliable infrastructure; both are critical to establishing our state-of-the-art development lab," he adds.

To kick-start its efforts in the Middle East, fonoinfo is also searching for distribution partners capable of delivering its applications in the region. Furthermore, the company hopes to have finalised a number of agreements within the Gitex timeframe.
