Dubai Municipality is extending its use of Peribit's sequence reducers as it looks to increase the efficiency of its wide area network (WAN). The initial implementation saw six SR-50s deployed at the municipality's head quarters and eight more at locations across Dubai. The new project will see yet more products rolled out at offices within the emirate to support the municipality's growing number of users and its finance, purchasing and e-mail and other operational applications.

"The number of services that Dubai Municipality offers has grown massively in the past few years. We now have almost 3,000 internal users connected to our system and people accessing information on our website," says Abdul Hakim Malik, IT director at Dubai Municipality.

"It is our challenge to ensure that our network runs smoothly so that all users have access to information as quickly and as easily as possible. By turning to Peribit for a solution, we have been able to give ourselves a cost-effective head start in terms of the capacity of our network," he adds.

Smooth running of internal communication is required at Dubai Municipality to ensure that its more than 10,000 employees can provide services to the community, ranging from organising public transport schedules to allocating stall rental sites at markets.

When live, the Peribit solution will allow Dubai Municipality to harness drastic increases in network capacity over its existing network infrastructure, thereby delivering increased network efficiency, better application performance and lower monthly transmission bills. In fact, the sequence reducers promises to increase the capacity of the municipality's wide area network (WAN) by as much as 300% during peak periods.

"As Dubai Municipality has grown, so too has the cost of transmitting information between the thousands of employees we have working across many different offices and departments," says Malik. "Deploying Peribit's cost-effective technology has enabled us to get information to each other quicker, and less expensive," he adds.
