A 1000 room hotel and water theme park, Atlantis, is being developed at the centre of The Palm Jumeirah, the $1.5 billion land reclamation project in Dubai.

The first phase of Atlantis, The Palm is an estimated $650 million development project and is promoted by Nakheel LLC, the promoters of The Palm project, and Kerzner International, operators of the One& Only Royal Mirage hotel in Dubai.

Atlantis, inspired by Kerzner International's one billion dollar plus investment in Atlantis, Paradise Island in the Bahamas, will have 1.5 miles (two kilometres) of beachfront in the heart of The Palm Jumeirah.

"With the success of Atlantis, Paradise Island our goal has been to extend the Atlantis brand and concept to an ever wider audience. Developing this project in Dubai is this next step, the ideal location for our second Atlantis. We have some unique development ideas for the water theme park that will be the centerpiece of this new project and will cater to all hotel guests and Dubai's residents and visitors," said Sol Kerzner, chairman of Kerzner International.

Construction of the Atlantis, The Palm will commence before the end of 2004 to be completed by 2007. The joint venture is subject to closing conditions, including funding for the project.
