3Com has introduced its IntelliJack 'in the wall' switches, which it claims will enable users to quadruple their connectivity infrastructures in a cost effective and simple manner. The jacks allow enterprises to increase their connections without the need to lay additional cabling. Furthermore, they offer Power over Ethernet capabilities.

The family includes the NJ205 model, which is a managed four-port Fast Ethernet switch for the UK and EU markets and the NJ105 jack, which is the unmanaged equivalent of the NJ205.

The IntelliJacks can be fitted into the wall converting existing local area network (LAN) ports from one port to four Fast Ethernet ones. The NJ205 product also supports centralised management and provides location mapping features, as well port level virtual LANs (VLANs) and traffic prioritisation.

"Organisations today are looking for cost effective and flexible ways of expanding their network while maintaining exceptional performance for security and converged applications," says Neal Kaufman, IntelliJack product line director, 3Com.

"With the new IntelliJack switches, network managers can increase their Fast Ethernet connectivity without the cost and disruption of further expensive cabling. The 3Com IntelliJack switches are the answer to connecting an increasing number of users to the network with a limited budget," he adds.
