Quark will use the GITEX 2003 event to launch the latest versions of QuarkXPress and ArabicXT for the new Apple operating system, Mac OS X.

QuarkXPress & ArabicXT 6.0 will offer a new suite of features for layout and design, in both English and Arabic, with rich typography, web page creation, colour management and also outputting.

"This new version is the answer to increased demand from our large user base to support the new Apple Mac OS X," said Joe Karkour, area manager for Layout Middle East, Quark's principal distributor in the region.

He added: "with this new version, our users can benefit from latest Apple hardware and software, and continue using their favourite desktop publishing application."

"This is yet another example of the strong commitment of major software players towards the Mac OS X platform in the Arab world," said Elias Abou-Rustom, marketing director, Arab Business Machine, which is the marketing representative for Apple in the Middle East region.

"This announcement adds to the benefits and further enhances the migration process of our Apple users to the Mac OS X platform. The [products] stability and reliability coupled with Apple's industry strength makes the Mac OS X operating system the number one environment for publishing," he added.

Layout will also be running special promotions on the new version of QuarkXPress Arabic for Windows during the GITEX event.
