Following the establishment of wholly owned subsidiary companies in Lebanon, Greece, UAE, Jordan and Kuwait during the last three years, the Cyprus-based IT group wants to expand its web of local offices, increase its breadth of products and make further inroads into virgin territories.

It is also preparing to announce a number of new channel initiatives with prominent global vendors that the company already represents. These vendor partners include the likes of Intel, Microsoft, IBM, Seagate, Cisco Systems, Kingston Technology, Sony, Asus, Tripp Lite and US Robotics.

"Expansion plans have taken us beyond the local boundaries," says Varnavas Irinarchos, Logicom Group founder and managing director. "We look forward to further expansion in the near future." Whether this will involve setting up subsidiary companies in other countries in the region in the near future remains to be seen.

Regardless of specific growth plans, however, Logicom sees the Middle East as a market where there is plenty more cash to be made and Gitex as a golden opportunity to establish relationships that can help feed further growth. Logicom's management will set aside time at the show to meet a large number of potential business partners.

"We believe that Gitex is a unique opportunity to meet the influx of resellers from across the region," explains Omiros Pissarides, Logicom's assistant general manager for Dubai.

Logicom's listing on the Cyprus Stock Exchange in January 2000 provided the company with the finances to embark on a regional expansion strategy, resulting in the group forming subsidiary companies across the Middle East. Logicom believes that the economies of scale and purchasing power gained from this are enabling it to investigate further expansion opportunities. D4-2
