After demonstrating wireless solutions last year, Toshiba has expanded on its vision with the launch of a range of new multimedia applications for home entertainment. Heading the product lineup is a range of 16:10 ratio wide-screen notebooks and the Toshiba TransCube home media server, which combines a TV tuner, movie, audio and PC data file server as well as a wireless broadband router.

"Wireless mobile computing is at the heart of digital convergence but with a new dimension that brings together home entertainment systems, mobile PC, television set, DVD player, gaming console, and sound system," says Ahmed Khalil, regional manager of Toshiba's computer systems division. "This is being made possible by the emergence of ultra high-speed data transfer via wireless LAN technology with processing speeds of 100Mbps, using 5GHz band that is IEEE802.11a compliant."

Toshiba has announced that its next generation of tablet PCs and notebooks will be wireless Voice-Integrated Protocol ready (VoIP).
