Diebold is unveiling its Opteva family of automated teller machines (ATMs) for the Middle East market at this year's Gitex. The Opteva family includes a through-the-wall, a drive-up ATM, a lobby ATM with advanced functionalities and a through-the-wall and lobby cash dispenser ATM.

"The Opteva family can deliver some real financial benefits to customers," claims Hassan Hares, Director, business development for Diebold Middle East. "They are easy to install, easy to own and easy to upgrade. Consequently, customers will benefit greatly from reduced cost of ownership," he claims.

The units will operate on Diebold's Agilis software platform, which can work with different vendors' terminals and are based on Universal Serial Bus (USB 2.0) architecture, making it easier for financial institutions to implement them.

Diebold conducted extensive primary research in 18 countries around the world and in response to customer requests, implemented various ATM security enhancements, including consumer awareness mirrors, various lighting options, a recessed keypad and display area that reduces the opportunity for PIN surfing and privacy display filters to prevent shoulder surfing.

The new family expands on traditional cash machine capabilities by offering a five-high, advanced-function dispenser, which can provide high volumes of currency and can help to reduce cash management costs.

Alternatively, the fifth cassette can dispense stamps, coupons, tickets or other media of incremental revenue while maintaining the cash capacity that previous ATMs offered. Previously, the maximum number of multi-media cassettes was four.

The interface for the ATMs has been designed to be extremely user-friendly with a 15.1 inch panel LCD screen, with sunlight-viewable and touch sensitive features.
