Jordan's Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT) has launched a new promotional identity at Gitex to reflect changes in its role.

The new identity has been designed to portray MoICT's role as a facilitator in building Jordan's capacity to exploit opportunities offered by the technology sector.

The MoICT will also be publishing its new policy paper at the show to clarify the government's policies and help increase innovation in the areas of IT and telecoms.

A key area that the policy document will focus on will be the Jordanian government's liberalisation policy in the Kingdom's postal sector.

Reforms have seen regulation passed to the Kingdom's Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) and the MoICT says the privatisation of the Jordan Post Company will happen as soon as market conditions permit.

"The MoICT's objectives are to satisfy demand for postal services, improve quality of service, reduce dependence on the government budget and stimulate private sector investment," says Tareq Kour, director of ICT promotion, MoICT. B8-1
