The new 15-inch PowerBook G4 on display on the Apple Stand will cost at least $2,000 when it is launched in the Middle East. Weighing in at just 5.6 pounds and sheathed in aluminium the portable computer features a backlit keyboard, a PowerPC G4 processor, high performance graphic capability, a 60 or 80GB hard drive and advanced connectivity possibilities.

Designed with creative and business professionals in mind the backlit keyboard features ambient light sensors for working in low-light conditions like aeroplanes and design studios. Apple says it's even useable in complete blackouts.

The G4 processor runs up to 1.25 GHz with 512KB on-chip level2 cache while the graphics owe their performance to its ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 with 64MB DDR RAM. In terms of wireless networking the compact computer supports AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth.

It's also got a built-in Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0 and high-speed FireWire 800 for fast file transfers.

Apple also sells 17- and 12-inch Powerbook G4s and these are on sale now. The exact date of the portable computer's Middle East release is not yet known.
