LG's first multi-format DVD rewriter has debuted at Gitex, dubbed the LG Super-Multi. Compatible with all three DVD formats - DVD-R/RW, DVD+R /+RW and DVD RAM, as well as all CD formats - it represents a global storage and playback first.

"One current concern is over the DVD format that will become standard in future and the LG Super-Multi removes this problem from the equation," says PC Choi, president, LG Electronics Gulf FZE.

"Aside the obvious advantage of reading every DVD format, the Super-Multi drive supports DVD RAM's 'simultaneous read/write', where data is recorded and verified simultaneously."

"If there is a defect," he adds, "the drive will write to another area on the disc, whereas with DVD+ and DVD- a defect on the disc will make the drive stop writing and cause the disc to become unusable."
