Taking centre stage at Inmarsat's stand is its portable satellite IP Regional BGAN modem. The device is among a portfolio of the vendor's products that have just been authorised by the Coalition Provisional Authority - the current governing body of Iraq - and the Ministry of Transportation & Communications for sale within Iraq.

"Regional BGAN is a useful addition to the portfolio of virtually any business operating in regions without reliable high speed data connectivity, such as Iraq," says Michael Butler, managing director of Inmarsat.

The modem is less than a year old, but has already gained good acceptance in the region, with an increasing number of applications being customised for use with it. Inmarsat is also emphasising the ease of use and reliability of the device.

"We encourage the technology industry in the region to join us at Gitex 2003 and learn how Regional BGAN could be an ideal solution for wireless, fixed and mobile networks," says Samer Halawi, regional director of Inmarsat.
