Iridium Satellite LLC is highlighting the vertical appeal of its global mobile satellite services. The vendor is showcasing a number of solutions geared towards the maritime and aviation sectors, as well as solutions for mobile and land environments.

Iridium's solutions incorporate both phones and pagers, and cover voice, data, SMS and global paging. Customers can also opt for pre-paid or post-paid services, which the vendor claims can reduce the communications costs for organisations.

"For example, we have a crew calling pre-paid system, which can interface with a payphone and the ship's crew can buy phone cards to talk to their families with using the system and payphone facility," explains Ayman Irshaid, regional director, channel management, Iridium Middle East.

While the vendor has already signed up a number of local service providers to support its solutions, Iridium is also hoping to extend its regional appeal during Gitex.

"Our business model works through service providers. We already have 10 service providers signed up, but we are looking for more. We are also looking for dealers," says Irshaid.
