If you're looking to escape the bedlam of the exhibition floor, you could do worse than stepping out to Coffee Convention, just outside halls 5 and 6. The coffee shop is offering a wide range of refreshments and light snacks and, for all those geeks who just can't leave the internet alone for five minutes, a wireless local area network (WLAN.)

Customers that want to surf the web will be able to use one of the ten HP 9500 notebooks to access e-mail and the internet. "We had an wi-fi network installed for the IMF conference [in September] and it proved very popular," says Elbe Saayman, manager, Coffee Convention.

"The original network was just here for the IMF. However, due to its popularity we have installed another network for Gitex," he adds.

The initial network was certainly well used during the IMF. Coffee Convention did 7500 covers during the five day conference and the WLAN was regularly used during that time. "The level of usage was surprising. We didn't expect it to be so well used," says Saayman.
