Indian IT services giant, Wipro, is close to expanding its focus in the Middle East through the launch of a new branch in Saudi Arabia.

The move will give the Bangalore-based provider a further physical presence in the region, following the opening of its regional headquarters at Dubai Internet City (DIC) in 2001.

The office will serve as a SAP technical competency centre and sales and marketing base to complement Wipro's existing business development team, which is already in situ at DIC and in Saudi Arabia.

Wipro's client base in the Kingdom includes Saudi Polyolefins and Riyadh Pharma - the provider has won an ERP implementation project based on SAP technology from the former.

"We have clearance... for an office in Saudi Arabia which will be operational in the next week to ten days," says Syed Mansoor Ahmad, general manager, Middle East operations, Wipro.

At its second Gitex appearance, Wipro is showcasing its entire range of enterprise services and attempting to persuade more businesses to adopt the outsourcing model.
