Gulf Air is set to issue requests for proposals (RfPs) to manufacturers of regional jets. The planned purchase forms part of the airline's strategy of increasing its regional network through additional flights and frequencies.

"We have issued the Requests for Interest (RFI) and next we will issue the RFPs. This could be later this month or next month," James Hogan, president & chief executive of Gulf Air, told Gulf News.

"We will be issuing the RFPs to all the jet manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing, Embraer and others," he added. However, Hogan did not say how many jets the airline was planning to acquire or the estimated cost outlay.
