Tejari enters the Iraqi market

Tejari, the Middle East B2B online marketplace, has today announced the launch of Tejari Iraq as part of its ongoing regional expansion strategy.

Tejari, the Middle East B2B online marketplace, has today announced the launch of Tejari Iraq as part of its ongoing regional expansion strategy.

Despite continued fighting and limited telecoms infrastructure in Iraq, Tejari is confident that it can claim a stake in the country's rebuilding process. "The earlier launches of Tejari Jordan and Tejari Lebanon proved to be ideally timed and executed, and we envisage a similar level of acceptance for online procurement in Iraq," said HE Sultan Bin Sulayem, executive chairman, Dubai Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Authority, and chairman of Tejari.

The move into Iraq for Tejari has been facilitated by a partnership deal with Al-Gabban Group, a clutch of construction and property management companies that already has operations within Iraq.

Tejari Iraq is pitching its e-procurement solution at both the private and government sectors and is particularly keen to tap into the billions of US dollars reconstruction money pouring into the country.

"Launching Tejari Iraq at this point in Iraq's rebuilding will enable the business and government communities to embrace online trading as a fundamentally beneficial, secure form of doing business," said Mohammad Al-Ghabban, chairman of Al-Ghabban Group.

"The administrative cost reductions and time-saving elements of procurement through Tejari may encourage some Iraqi organisations to skip paper-based trading almost all together."
