Yankee Group is highlighting the merits of hosted IP telephony solutions. The research group says that such a set up allows enterprises to gain rapid access to the technical and financial resources required to both install and control converged infrastructures, while also maintaining voice quality.

Additionally, Yankee Group has been emphasising the benefits of IP telephony in terms of freeing up resources and enabling enterprises to keep pace with technology changes, while focusing on business value.

"With IP telephony gaining momentum, CIOs and network managers must determine their ability to deploy and manage it," says George Hamilton, enterprise computing & networking analyst, Yankee Group. "The benefits of a converged infrastructure are lower costs, easier administration and enhanced communications services. Given the value of this technology, the decision is not whether to implement IP telephony, but how - either through a premises convergence or a services convergence strategy," he adds.

Yankee Group also underlined the value of the hosting model to small-to-medium sized businesses (SMBs) and vertical sectors such as financial, insurance and retail.

"Small and medium-sized businesses and enterprises with multiple field or branch offices, such as banks, insurance companies, and retail chains, are good candidates for a hosted IP telephony solution. Remote management of a hosted solution can deliver immediate ROI," says Hamilton.
