Nortel Networks has released a number of products to support its new security framework, which is designed to remove boundaries in existing communications infrastructures. The vendor's aim is to enable end users to provide secure, flexible access to multimedia content in converged networks for both mobile and remote users through any device, from any location.

Additionally, Nortel is looking to drive down costs by reducing the costs of remote user access by up to 35%.

Reinforcing this aim is a range of products including a virtual private networking (VPN) gateway that supports both secure socket layer (SSL) and IPSec VPNs in the same device. Additionally, the Contivity Secure IP Services Gateway Portfolio will introduce SSL VPN capabilities to the vendor's existing Contivity range, while the Contivity 200 switch will offer VPNs, firewalls and protection from denial of service (DoS) attacks.

Furthermore, Nortel is delivering the Universal Remote Access Portal, which will determine the most appropriate VPN access for users, as well as the VPN Client Administrator, which is designed for enterprises with a large number of VPN users.

"Nortel Networks understands the challenges of remote access security," says Atul Bhatnagar, vice president & general manager, enterprise data networks, Nortel Networks.

"The beauty of this solution is that is combines managed remote access, secure virtual private networks and advanced multimedia communication applications to deliver secure anywhere, anytime multimedia access. This approach is designed to increase employee productivity and offers the potential to yield a significantly lowered total cost of ownership for a remote access infrastructure," he continues.
