Sun Microsystems is extending its reach into the region's mid-market with the launch of the Sun Fire V250 two-processor tower server, which comes preloaded with more than US$10,000 worth of Sun Java System software.

Sun's new 'office-in-box' solution comes equipped with a range of Sun software including the company's StarOffice 7.0 productivity suite; SunScreen 3.1 Firewall Lite; Sun Java System messaging, calendar, and directory servers; and trial versions of the Sun Java System application and web server. The company has created the V250 solution, which can also be used as an application, e-mail or database server, specifically for customers that are tired of separately purchasing expensive office productivity and e-mail server software, downloading security patches, and recovering from the effects of viruses.

Sun's multi-faceted new server is targeted at Middle East-based organisations that require low-cost solutions delivering business-critical reliability, support for key applications, a secure environment, and minimal computing complexity. Sun anticipates that companies in the region's SMB sector, as well as branch offices of larger regional organisations, and enterprise workgroups developing new business applications will primarily deploy the new Sun Fire V250.

"The Sun Fire V250 tower server solution offers incredible value for organisations of every size - ranging from businesses with just five users to branch offices of companies with more than 500 employees," commented John Foster, volume solutions sales manager, Sun Microsystems MENA. "For smaller or emerging businesses, the V250's competitive pricing, bundled software, and internal storage are key benefits. The solution's manageability and expandability make it ideal for branch office usage. Finally, its integrated software, high memory, and reliability ensure that the V250 is an ideal fit for application development workgroups"

In addition to its bundled suite of Sun ONE software solutions, the Sun Fire V250 includes an Advanced Lights Out Management feature that enables remote server monitoring and administration, delivering greater flexibility and ease of management.
