Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has been chosen as one of five finalists in the Gulf Marketing Review’s Gulf Brands of the Decade awards.

The company was praised for its dramatic progress over the past 10 years, increased customer focus and the active role it has played in the development of the country's society.

“Participating in competitions like this show Qtel’s commitment to highlighting the changes and progress we have undergone and using it as a benchmark to improve our products, services and approach to come closer to our customers,” says Dr Nasser Marafih, Qtel chief executive officer. The awards will be announced on November 30, at a gala dinner to be hosted in Dubai.

Qtel will be represented at the event by Waleed Mohammad Al Sayed, the company spokesman and Mustafa Al Qatami, head of public relations.

“From an original list of over 400 brands across the Middle East, Qtel’s brand has become one of last five to progress to one of the 10 award categories. Qtel’s shortlisting for the award comes after the company’s annual report for the year 2002 was given top billing in a recent survey report done by Gulf Marketing Review on annual reports in the region, and the design, concept and clear and simple presentation of the company’s philosophy Sharing Your Best Moments,” a Qtel spokesman said.

The awards are intended to recognise the achievements of Arab companies and individuals in the region during the past 10 years.
