Veritas upgrades enterprise storage software

The Middle East operations of the US$1.5 billion Veritas Software Corporation, today unveiled a new version of its backup and recovery software, Veritas NetBackup 5.0 for regional customers.

The Middle East operations of the US$1.5 billion Veritas Software Corporation , the storage software company, unveiled today a new version of its backup and recovery software, Veritas NetBackup 5.0.

A number of customer and channel initiatives with a series of regional events on disaster recovery, as well as direct customer engagements and training sessions at its new in-house facilities at the Dubai Internet City are planned to promote its enterprise data protection said Veritas.

The new 5.0 version of the NetBackup, offers advanced data protection techniques, improved disk-based backup, with desktop and laptop data protection features to its flagship enterprise data protection software. Currently more than 400 enterprises in the Middle East use previous versions of NetBackup.

"Building on our robust base of NetBackup customers in industries such as telecommunications, oil and gas, and financial services, this new version will enable our end-users to maintain the integrity and safety of their critical data, while making their IT operations more efficient and productive," says Mike Hynes, regional director, Veritas Software Middle East.

New capabilities of the software include faster backup and recovery with disk-based data protection; extended automation of manual tasks; simplified snapshots; desktop and laptop data protection and data lifecycle management.

It currently supports AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris and Windows. Veritas NetBackup 5.0 pricing starts at US$5,000, with the new desktop and laptop option starting at US$2,500.
