Oracle Corporation today previewed the new version of its application server 10g (G for Grid Computing). 10g claims to be the first middleware offering that simplifies the management of applications running in a grid computing environment and offers enhanced integration and Web services capabilities.

According to Oracle’s ‘grid-vision’ enterprise grid computing can dramatically reduce the time, labor and cost of IT management by pooling industry-standard servers, storage and software. As a result, companies can use the power of their entire system or computing grid, for several projects, rather than continuing to purchase more capacity for separate projects. The 10g database and application server are vital components of Oracle’s integrated grid software infrastructure

The company also unveiled Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g, an enterprise software to manage Oracle enterprise grids Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g introduces automated management software that provides a complete view of a company’s computing infrastructure.

Using Oracle Application Server 10g, administrators can adjust computing capacity based on user needs and demands and computing resources can be allocated on a demand-basis. New features include the enhanced Fast Start Fault Recovery Architecture and Failure Notification (FaN) that simplify communication between the database and application server nodes to provide a coordinated fail over response when hardware or other system outages occur.

Commenting on the release of Oracle's grid computing suite, Husam Dajani Vice president, Oracle Middle East said, “Grid computing represents a significant new technology direction for the IT industry and Oracle will play a major role in how information and applications are delivered in this environment. By making it easy to take advantage of grid computing, Oracle Application Server 10g takes middleware to the next level and enables customers to lower costs and increase IT responsiveness.”

Oracle Application Server 10g is scheduled to be available by the end of this year.
