The region’s health tourism sector is set to showcase its prize assets when an International Health Tourism and Holidays exhibition takes place in Bahrain from September 30 to October 03.

The event, which will be held at Bahrain’s International Exhibition Centre, is likely to further cement the Kingdom’s growing reputation as a destination for tourists.

“Bahrain has an excellent track record in the fields of tourism as well as healthcare and it has been the express desire of tourism and health authorities to leverage this expertise into a viable tourism industry,” said Abdel Monem Sadeq, general manager of Amadeus International Fairs Group, organisers of the exhibition.

With Formula 1 set to arrive in April 2004 and a number of tourism developments popping up across the island, events of this nature are bound to increase Bahrain’s business tourism sector, particularly in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions field.

Lebanon and Jordan already successfully attract substantial health tourists and Dubai is set to open a Healthcare City within the next two years.

This latest exhibition, which will also include a conference with guest speakers illustrating the latest developments in health tourism, aims to outline the best ways to resolve health issues within familiar cultural surroundings at affordable prices.

Amongst the 110 organisations scheduled to attend the exhibition are medical clinics, health holiday resorts and tour operators with countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Malaysia sending participants.

“We are excited at the level of regional and international participation this show has garnered,” said Sadeq. “Health Tourism is a fast emerging speciality sector.”
