Dubai’s retail boom shows no sign of abating after two major announcements were made in the last week.

The Gardens Shopping Mall confirmed on September 8 that it has signed a deal with Sharaf General Trading to open several leading international retail outlets at the forthcoming mall. The stores include Woolworths, B Bush, AIIZ, Byati, Red Earth, Sanrio, Al Sharaf Money Exchange and Al Sharaf Travel.

“Al Sharaf’s commitment of such major brands to The Gardens Mall underlines the strength of the proposition that we are offering our tenants,” said Andrew Chambers, general manager of The Gardens. “Following hard on the heels of our recent announcements with Géant and Alshaya, the presence of such outlets as Woolworths, AIIZ and B Bush, means that we already have a world class lineup of top brands.”

The total space taken by the Al Sharaf retail brands will be over 3,000 square metres. “It is clear from all of the available data that there will be a huge growth in population in the area surrounding The Gardens [near Internet City],” said Vijay Menon, general manager of Al Sharaf Trading. “Given that they will be the first major retail operation to open in this area, they obviously have a significant advantage and we are very pleased to commit our brands to this development.”

The other major retail related announcement was the opening last week of a new lower level at Deira City Centre. It includes 24 stores, a new taxi drop off area, a customer service centre and family facilities.

The level is positioned as an electronic hub and features well known stores such as Jumbo, Jacky’s Electronics, Eros Electricals and Fono.

“The new extension is a part of Deira City Centre’s commitment to provide customers with the greatest shopping choice and experience in the UAE Deira City Centre,” said Rashid Zakaria Doleh, general manager, Deira City Centre.

“We can now proudly say that Deira City Centre is a city inside a city, and a one stop shop for residents and tourists alike.”
