The Department of Health & Medical Services (DOHMS) has overhauled its web site and integrated the eDirham payment service. DOHMS believes that the addition of the eDirham facility will boost traffic to its site.

The site — www.dohoms.gov.ae — is the first Dubai government department site to integrate the eDirham payment engine.

“The introduction of the facility of paying for DOHMS services using eDirham through the internet is a value-addition to… our new, revamped portal,” says Sina Khoory, acting finance director, DOHMS.

“We have launched a wide range of ePay services that have received remarkable response from individuals and businesses alike. Currently 8% of health card renewal is done online and 92% is done by conventional channels. With the introduction of the eDirham facility over the internet, we expect to boost the [number] of citizens using our online services,” he adds.

The eDirham is a payment tool devised by the Ministry of Finance & Industry to facilitate collection of revenues for government services. Dubai’s e-government initiative has made eDirham available to all government departments through the ePay project.

DOHMS customers can now renew health card or medical licenses for institutions by paying through credit card, the eDirham service, or by opening a credit facility account with DOHMS.

“E-services offered to DOHMS users is integrated and comprehensive, encouraging people to opt for it over conventional services. This is a significant improvement in the way fees are paid,” comments Khoory.

“We believe that this is just the first step, that will be followed by others, to strengthen Dubai’s conversion to an IT based society, enabling citizens to utilise IT solutions in all walks of life,” he adds.
