Market cap of Arab exchanges hits $288B

Recent rallying of Arab stock exchanges has increased the market capitalisation of 14 markets by 23% for three months ending June 2003.

A recent report by the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) says bullish Arab stock markets saw their capitalisation in the three months ending June at US $288 billion surge 23% from the $234 billion reported at the end of the first quarter of 2003.

The Moroccan exchange was the biggest gainer increasing 22.9%, followed by Saudi Arabia, 20.2%, Qatar 19.3%, Jordan 18.9%, Kuwait 18.1%, Oman 15.4%, Lebanon 13.9%, Tunisia 11.4%, Egypt 9.6%, Bahrain 8.6%, Sudan 4.2%, Abu Dhabi 3.6%, Dubai 1.6%. The Algerian market fell 7.6%.

According to the report the Saudi and Kuwaiti markets account for 30% of the total market value.
