NetScout Systems is working together with Foundry Networks to improve network monitoring and management functionalities for administrators. The two vendors are integrating technology components to enable enterprises to proactively oversee their infrastructure environments and optimise network and application performance.

Testing has recently been completed on a joint solution, which incorporates sFlow information from Foundry’s switches with NetScout’s new CDM Adaptor for sFlow. The adaptor collects and collates the sFlow data and feeds into NetScout’s nGenius Performance Management System, which then displays real time information and reports to network administrators. According to the two vendors, this process will increase management efficiencies and, in turn, deliver cost savings.

“Foundry Networks is leading the adoption of sFlow as a standard. Together, we’re now offering our customers even greater returns on their existing infrastructure investments,” says Bruce Sweet, vice president of business development, NetScout.

“The inclusion of sFlow within NetScout’s nGenius [platform] increases Foundry’s network management solution offerings and leverages the wealth of tools available from NetScout’s products,” adds Val Oliva, product marketing manager & manager of NetScout project, Foundry Networks.

NetScout’s CDM Adaptor is capable of integrating the sFlow data it collects with other information about the network traffic flow, enabling network administrators to receive a centralised view of all activities through the nGenius platform.

“CDM Adaptors are an integral part of our strategy to provide a more simplified, clutter free environment that helps IT managers cost effectively optimise delivery of mission critical networked applications,” says Sweet.

The solutions featuring the CDM Adaptor, which include NetScout’s nGenius Performance Manager 2.0 and nGenius Probe firmware 6.0, will also provide additional performance metrics such as mini RMON and MIB II interface statistics relating to Foundry’s switches and routers. Despite testing only be completed recently Oliva says these products will be ready to ship late in the third quarter.
