Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts (MH&R) has signed a management agreement for its first hotel in Sana’a, Yemen.

The new Mövenpick hotel, touted to become Yemen’s grandest property, will be in Dahr Hymyar, near the city centre. It will have 330 luxury rooms including 31 suites and a presidential suite, and will open in September 2004.

The hotel will also feature the large conference and banqueting facilities including a ballroom of 1,000 square metres and nine meeting rooms.

Hussein Ahmed Banafa’a, managing director of the International Company for Touristic Investments Limited and owner of the property, said he is delighted with the new agreement. “Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts enjoy an excellent reputation in the Middle East; we decided to award the management agreement to them because of them. We are convinced that we have found a strong international partner,” he said.

“This new project enables us to expand our network across the Gulf,” said Andreas Mattmüller, senior vice president Middle East, MH&R.
