The Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) is rolling out Oracle’s Collaboration Suite throughout its entire organisation.

Collaboration Suite will provide the academic institution with an unified messaging platform, that integrates e-mail, voicemail, calendaring, file sharing and management capabilities.

JUST is expecting the project to reduce downtime and the total cost of ownership, by consolidating separate systems and reducing IT support needs.

The deployment of Collaboration Suite is one element of a broader project to build a university portal. JUST is also rolling out Oracle’s 9i database, Oracle Real Application Clusters, 9i Application Server and Developer Suite, to build its education portal.

When operational, the web site will host course resources, course descriptions, class schedules and a student registration application. JUST’s administrators and faculty will use the Oracle software to manage online academic content and share ideas.

“JUST has been using the Oracle platform to develop applications for almost a decade, and during that time, we’ve found Oracle’s continuous software enhancements and regional support to be first-rate,” comments Yousef Torman, Computer & Information Center director, JUST.

“Our experience has demonstrated that Oracle software is equal to any end user requirement, and offers significant benefits to our organisation, including ease of deployment, reliability, and a strong affinity with the specific needs of the academic community. We anticipate a sizeable return on investment in deploying the Oracle Collaboration Suite,” he adds.

The university’s in-house technology team will use Developer Suite to create bespoke applications that give JUST’s 12,000 students and 2,000 employees access to relevant university information through a personalised portal interface.
