SMC Networks is incorporating Intersil Corporation’s PRISM Nitro performance enhancing technology into its 802.11g product range. While new products will include the firmware upgrade, users of existing 802.11g solutions can download an upgrade from SMC Networks’ web site.

Utilising the PRISM Nitro technology will enable SMC Networks to offer users higher throughput levels, up to 50% more in g only networks and up to 300% in mixed mode (802.11b and g) environments. According to the networking vendor, the firmware is able to deliver these improved efficiencies by eliminating collisions and using packet bursting technology.

“We’re excited that SMC can provide its customers with this technology along with our 802.11g wireless products. The combination of PRISM Nitro technology and our advanced management and security features puts SMC’s 802.11g products ahead of the competition in quality and economy,” claims Jamshed Medhi, managing director, SMC Networks Middle East.

Furthermore, the PRISM Nitro technology is fully compliant with IEEE standards and backward compatible with 802.11b products.
