BMC Software has introduced a sliding scale of management into its Patrol family. The aim of this scale is to tailor management tools to meet the size and price constraints of an enterprise, while also lowering upfront investments and exacting a stronger return on investment (ROI).

As such, enterprises can choose from entry level monitoring Patrol solutions to more advanced proactive management platforms.

“The sliding scale of management enables customers to dramatically reduce their cost of maintaining the enterprise while substantially increasing service levels by providing the flexibility to scale from lightweight monitoring to robust system management based on each element’s criticality to the business service,” claims Mary Smars, vice president, Patrol, enterprise systems management, BMC Software.

Adding further weight to the Patrol family is the addition of Patrol Express 3.0, which provides remote infrastructure monitoring and assesses performance against user defined goals.

Additionally, version 3.0 enables monitoring of web transactions and also allows enterprises to measure the internet latency their end users are receiving through over 30 points of presence (PoPs).

Patrol Express has also been updated to include Service Measures reports that provide performance measurements in terms of business services and a Critical Alarm status, which can be predefined by users.

“The combination of Patrol and Patrol Express allows customers to choose the solution or combination of solutions that fits their management and monitoring needs while giving them choice and control over licensing costs,” says Smars.
