3Com and Huawei Technologies’ joint venture plans have taken a step forward with export license approvals from both the UK and US governments. This will enable the vendors to share and license any technologies or products that have been developed in these countries.

“3Com is pleased that it has obtained the required US and UK government approvals to enable the joint venture with Huawei,” says Mark Michael, general counsel, 3Com. “The 3Com-Huawei joint venture is now one major step closer to being fully operational as planned,” he adds.

The two networking vendors are now just awaiting a green light from the Chinese government, following which their joint venture plans will move into top gear.

3Com and Huawei reiterated the goal of their joint venture following the approvals’ announcement. The vendors plan to introduce complementary products to 3Com’s existing line of Layer 2 and 3 local area network (LAN) switches.
