War in Iraq has cost more than US $35 billion

The US Department of Defense said on Tuesday July 15 the war in Iraq and the period after combat was declared over, had cost over US $35 billion and that the ensuing months would average more than $3.9 billion.

The US Department of Defense said on Tuesday July 15 the war in Iraq and the period after combat was declared over, had cost over US $35 billion and that the ensuing months would average more than $3.9 billion.

A US official told Reuters that Under Secretary of Defense Dov Zakheim, the Pentagon’s comptroller, estimated the build up phase before the war cost America $30 billion and the period of hostilities cost an additional $5 billion

Zakheim expects the costs of the campaign to reach about $58 billion by the end of the fiscal year, according to the official.
